The Effects of Self-Exercise Program on Hand Muscle Strength and ROM in Patients with rheumatoid Athritis

Abstract
This study was designed to examine the effects of self-exercise program in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The subjects were consisted of 36 patients who visited the Rheumatic Clinic at Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital from March to June 1995. 19
patients for experimental group and 17 patients for control group were chosen on a random basis. Experimental group underwent a 8-week self-excercise program (Lee, jae hak, 1990) at home, After this programmed exercise, hand strength (Hunter et
al.,
1984; smith, 1985), range of motion (ROM), quality of life with face scale (Lehman et al., 1989) were evaluated and compared to control group.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The strength of hands and fingers in general, and lateral and 3-jaw chuck strength were significantly increased in experimental group compared to control group. Grip and tip strength did not show any difference between two groups. But all
of
the
hand and finger strength in experimental group was significantly increased compared to the control group after the self exercise (Lt. Hand, P=0.007, Rt. hand, P=0.006).
